Earth Hour 2018 – Take care of the planet by switching off in solidarity

Earth Hour is an important event for us, our credo is dedicated to protecting planet earth and respecting all life that we share it with. We try to live these values daily by:

  • Doing all we can to tread lightly
  • Being aware of our consumption
  • Supporting causes that match our values
  • Sharing our values with everyone we touch

What is Earth Hour?

Earth Hour is a global movement created by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), to shine a light on the need for climate action. Millions of landmarks, businesses and people take part each year by putting aside 60 minutes at 8.30pm to switch off their lights or host an event.

Last year saw 187 countries take part, over 3,000 landmarks (including Sydney Opera House, the Eiffel Tower, Buckingham Palace, and Edinburgh Castle) switched off their lights and millions of individuals, businesses and organizations across seven continents took action to fight climate change.

When is Earth Hour?

Saturday 24 March, 8:30pm – 9.30pm (Local time)

How can I take part?

Join us in celebrating Earth Hour, it’s easy to take part! At 8.30pm (your local time), simply switch off your lights and take part in a candlelit activity. It’s totally up to you how to celebrate! We’ve selected our favourite top ten suggestions from WWF on what to do in the dark:

  1. Make a Promise for the Planet! Commit to change one thing to protect the planet – use our Promise Maker here or #PromiseForThePlanet on social.
  2. Have a bonfire with friends and family under the stars – or recreate indoors by toasting marshmallows by candlelight.
  3. Go stargazing if it’s a clear night – remember to wrap up warm!
  4. Indulge in a candlelit bath (you could even share it with your favourite person…!)
  5. Try some nature inspired Yoga poses – how about the crocodile or if you’re a pro the monkey!
  6. Go for a nature walk and see what night-time wildlife you can spot.
  7. Go for a moonlit walk along the beach.
  8. Build a den for your children (or you) – pile up the cushions or stack up old boxes!
  9. Make your own candle lanterns (using old jam jars) and host a candlelit street party to meet your neighbours.
  10. Get crafting and upcycle something – it’s great fun and you’ll create something you can use! You can find lots of inspiration here.
